While the first weekend of spring break in March began with skiing, the last weekend of it ended with working on school projects that Natalie and Maggie left until the last minute.  This happened last year too.  As a procrastinator and perfectionist (a lethal combo) throughout school, myself, I really want to help the girls avoid this path.  Thankfully the projects were not too overwhelming and were completed by mid afternoon on a Saturday.  The first week of April, they showcased them at the school's Core Fair.

Maggie wrote a report on the Man 'O War jellyfish and made a diorama.

Natalie's mask representing the country she studied and wrote about, Côte d'Ivoire.

Sabrina's report and scaled representation of Pluto.  She learned more about the solar system and did this project in class.  She is the only 1st grade student, out of all the ones that chose Pluto, who actually made it small.  Smart little cookie.

 We've had two bomb cyclones, one in March (on my birthday) and one in April, both on Wednesdays that resulted in no school and rescheduled piano lessons.

EASTER:

Our church service was on the CSU campus.  Afterward, we hosted some couples from our small group for lunch.  We had such a fun time eating and playing games and having a Dr. Mario tournament.

I need to brag a little on Natalie now.  

In March, Natalie learned that she was being awarded the Masonic Award for Excellence.  This is a huge honor because only one 5th grader is chosen in each school in the district.  It's awarded to a student who goes above and beyond; who models excellence to their teachers and peers; who shows school pride and is involved in the school and extracurricular activities; and exhibits leadership qualities.  We are so very proud of the excellent student that she is.  She really had an amazing year in 5th grade (morning announcement team, Eco week, Student Council, Young Scholars, Masonic Award, Assistant Director of the school musical) and we are excited to see where she puts her energies in middle school.

I took these pictures of her on the day she found out she won the Masonic award.  We had to keep it a surprise so I sneakily asked the girls if I could pick out their outfits for the day because I missed being able to do it (which I do sometimes).  Thankfully, she was completely surprised.

She also gave a power point presentation on the Trends in 3D printing for her Young Scholars project the following night and we finished up the week with a piano recital for all three girls!  Then we had the musical she helped with the following Tuesday!  It was a crazy busy week, with Dusty traveling for part of it, but we made it through!
